This July there are awareness days for chimpanzees, sharks and snakes as well as considering the impact of population growth. July is also the month where we are encouraged to reduce our use of single use plastics.

Plastic Free July is a global movement to encourage all of us to refuse single use plastic so that we can have cleaner streets, oceans, and more beautiful communities.
Date: 3rd July
Plastic Bag Free Day takes place during plastic-free July and is a day to focus on reducing the use of single use plastics across the world.
It encourages the use of reusable bags for shopping and packaging.

Population is an environmental issue, and World Population Day seeks to focus attention on the urgency and importance of population issues. To understand how humans use the planet, we need to understand how we use the planet, and plan for mankind's future use of the planet.

Shark Awareness Day aims to change the image of sharks in a celebration of this incredible group of animals.
Sharks, along with skates and rays which also have a cartilaginous skeleton, are a group of diverse and fascinating sea creatures made up of over 1000 unique species.

World Chimpanzee Day celebrates these remarkable creatures and raise awareness about the vital need for worldwide participation in their welfare, protection, and conservation.

Orcas matter as they are known as an ‘indicator’ species, that is a species that can tell us a lot about the health and well-being of the marine ecosystem. The day aims to raise awareness of orca in the wild and the threats they face.

World Snake Day is an opportunity to celebrate snakes and raise awareness about their preservation as well as change negative attitudes toward snakes.

International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystems is a UNESCO designated day. Mangroves are a rare, spectacular and prolific ecosystems on the boundary between land and sea which support a rich biodiversity and provide a valuable nursery habitat for fish and crustaceans.
Date: Late July or Early August (estimated)
Earth Overshoot Day marks the date when humanity has used all the biological resources that Earth regenerates during the entire year.
In 2024 it fell on 1st August and is estimated to fall in late July in 2025. It is announced on 5th June each year, which is World Environment Day.

World Nature Conservation Day is a day for preserving nature in all it's forms - plants, trees animals, insects and sealife.
Date: 29th July
International Tiger Day is a day to promote a global system for protecting the natural habitats of tigers and to raise public awareness and support for tiger conservation issues.
