Energy Saving Gadgets
At Nigel's Eco Store

It's always a good time to save energy! Apart from being good to the environment it will save you money too. Here are five great ideas from Nigel Berman of Nigel's Eco Store.

You can save even more money - just enter the code EFEB09 at the checkout for 10% off anything from Nigel's Eco Store. Offer lasts until 28th February.

Stop Radiator Heat Loss
Quite a lot of heat from a radiator is lost in heating the wall behind it - worse if it's an outside wall. There are ways to capture this wasted heat: Radiator Panels are shiny reflective panels that fit behind your radiators. They insulate the wall and reflect heat into the room, making rooms warmer. Their unique shape also encourages the hot air to circulate faster. They're easy to fit and can save up to 20% of heating costs.

  • Advantages: permanent solution, 1 pack will be good for several radiators, insulates the wall, no running costs or energy use, largely invisible
  • Nigel says: We installed these at home and noticed the difference immediately

Measure Your Energy Usage
Before you can really start cutting down your energy use (and bills), you need to see how much you are using in the first place. Plugging an energy meter into your home appliances and taking readings for a week will help you see the patterns in your usage. Next step? Change those patterns and cut your carbon footprint. For a whole house reading, use an OWL or an Efergy or to do it with style, try the Wattson.

  • Nigel says: These gadgets make measuring your energy use (and cost) easy.

Energy Saving Lighting
Now that the traditional incandescent light bulb is being phased out in favour of low energy alternatives, it's time to get low energy bulbs in your home and workplace. The ones we sell are best quality, and typically save 80% of the electricity, and £40 each or more over their life. They come in all fittings, shapes and sizes, and some are dimmable.

Automatic Bleeder
This new radiator bleeder is easy to fit and automatically releases air from any central heating radiator, ensuring that only hot water remains and so maintaining maximum heat.

  • Nigel says: a useful, energy saving gadget

Cut Those Chimney Draughts
The Chimney Pillow is a simple, cost-effective way to stop chimney draughts, reduce noise and heat loss, so saving energy and making your home warmer. Easy to install and remove, it is made from a special laminate that makes it airtight, tear-resistant and long-lasting. It's been specially designed to be easily positioned, and also to allow a little ventilation up the chimney. It's completely safe: if heated it shrivels up.

  • Nigel says: We have 2 draughty fireplaces at home. Blocking them off with a chimney pillow has made a noticeable difference
