Tree-Athlon

Tree-Athlon 2006

The London Tree-Athlon is taking place in Battersea Park on 23rd September 2006 and the Midlands Tree-Athlon in Cannock Chase Forest on 14th October 2006, to raise money for the planting and care of thousands of trees across the UK and internationally.

Organised by the charity Trees for Cities, the Tree-Athlon is a three-part event for fit tree lovers of all ages.  It will include a 5km run, an urban ‘tree wish’ and planting a tree seed.

As well as the satisfaction of raising money for an excellent cause, one of the participants will receive an amazing accolade – a new woodland will be named in perpetuity after the Tree-athlete who raises the most in sponsorship!

A number of top celebrities have already pledged their support including TV Sports Presenter Gabby Logan, Top TV gardening guru, Diarmuid Gavin, who is a Patron of Trees for Cities, Ashia Hansen, European Champion and Britain's top woman triple jumper, Channel 4’s City Gardener, Matt James, TV Chef and author, Ching, and stand-up comedian, Shazia Mirza

Meanwhile celebrity impersonator Alistair McGowan will be the man with the starter’s gun.  “Global warming is such a pressing issue and the Tree-Athlon is a tree-mendous way for people to do their bit for the environment. Future generations will never forgive us if we just sit back and let the ice caps melt.” said Alistair.

Registration costs £17 (on-line at www.tree-athlon.org) and all those that register will receive a Tree-Athlon t-shirt, a running bib printed with their urban ‘tree wish’ and at the event their own tree seed to plant in a special pot.  There will also be a range of activities for Tree-Athletes and spectators including guided tree walks, massages, wood sculptures, face painting, etc.
